Decorating for the Holiday Season: Tips & Tricks

The holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year. Many host their friends & family. Others explore their neighborhood looking for the most festive house on the block. The front door is the most eye-catching part of the home. It is the entryway to the best holiday parties and the coziest nights spent with loved ones. It is the centerpiece of all the outside décor.

Keep it Simple

Wreaths are a staple piece to any front door, year-round, but especially during the holidays. Wreaths come in all different shapes & sizes, so pick one that best compliments your door and suits your personality. We enjoy the classic wreaths with a red bow, but some of our other favorites incorporate pinecones, different types of greenery for added texture and lights with a timer set to turn on at dusk to light up your house at night. While some wreaths are pre-made with all these additives, this is a great idea for a holiday DIY project to create something unique to your style.

Don’t Get “Hung-Up” on the Details

Take it one step further by adding a garland around your door. Like the wreaths, this piece is completely customizable and up to you to decide what best fits your style. Garlands can be as simple as the one in the photo with lights and pinecones, or feel free to add ornaments and fillers to make it appear even more festive. Some garlands can be purchased flocked, or with the appearance of a light dusting of snow on them, something that we in Florida do not get to experience this time of year. It’s fun to frame the doorway with other items such as Christmas trees, poinsettias or any small pieces of décor. Throw a cozy blanket on any front porch furniture to make your home feel warm and inviting.

Fun for the Whole Family

Have kids? Get them involved & get creative with your decor. This fun décor utilizes three wreaths differing in size to form a snowman on the front door. This whimsical look is unique and will be memorable amongst your guests. We love the idea of getting the entire family involved in decorating. This makes something as simple as the décor on your front door, much more meaningful.
